Coverage A- Dwelling

Dwelling covers the property you own as the insured and anything attached to it. Also, materials that are intended for use to build, restore, or renovate the property are included in this coverage. If you have buildings and other outdoor equipment that are not covered by another optional coverage within this policy, Coverage A will cover this also. A special limit of $250 applies to TV antennas, satellite dishes, and outdoor radios. This special limit is part of the coverage for dwelling and is applicable to deductible as stated in your policy.

This coverage also offers the special limit of $250 included for tv antennas, outdoor radios, and satellite dishes. Please note that to be eligible for this coverage, the structure must have a clear space between it and the dwelling- it cannot be attached to the dwelling.

Coverage C- Household Property

Coverage C covers personal household property of the insured, members of the insured’s family that live at the covered residence, while at residence. If the property is away from the residence, the limit of liability is 10% of Coverage C amount or $1,000, whichever is more. There are some exclusions to this coverage. (see below for links to more detailed information on these three coverage types)

There are exclusions to coverage C- such as animals, bird, fish, articles that are specifically covered under any other insurance. Your Team at Ferranti-Graybeal is happy to meet with you anytime to further discuss the other exclusions.

There are some items under Coverage C- Household Property that have special limits of insurance imposed on them. This means, the insurance company will cover up to a specific amount. Some of those items are: Money, platinum, silver, passports, securities, watercraft (inc equipment, engines, etc), and more. There is also property that is covered to a certain monetary amount if it’s been stolen- such as jewelry, furs, goldware, silverware, pewterware, firearms and more.

Coverage D- Loss of Use

Coverage D helps you when your property is damaged to the point where you cannot live in it, or your renter cannot live in it. The insurance company will reimburse you, the insured, for the cost of living- maintaining normal living conditions/normal standard of living or the fair rental value that you lose while your tenant is displaced due to the damage. The insurance company will pay you for the least amount of time it will take to repair or replace the damage, or if need be, to relocate permanently. There is no deductible that first needs to be paid before this coverage kicks in.

Coverage E- Scheduled Farm Property

In the Declarations page of an insurance agreement (they all have them) is where the limit of insurance is shown for Scheduled Farm Property. Examples of scheduled property are, but not limited to: Beans, hay, straw, poultry, livestock, fish, worms, farm equipment. So, these items are listed in the Declarations with their max limit of coverage listed there for each one. This Coverage does not include: plants, lawns, shrubs, growing crops, permanent fixtures within or attached to a building, household property, outdoor TV/radio equipment/wiring, including private light/power poles.

Coverage F- Unscheduled Farm Property

If Coverage E shows specifically what item is covered and it’s limit of coverage, this coverage is the opposite. It covers things on what’s called a blanket basis – items that are not specifically scheduled in the Declarations. If livestock is not specifically listed (scheduled) then it’s also covered here on a blanket basis, subject to limits like $1k for any one head of livestock under 1 years old, or $2k for livestock over 1 years old. Just know that insurance companies usually limit the amount of coverage if you don’t schedule the livestock and use Coverage F- unscheduled- blanket basis type coverage. Also, items may still be covered while in transport- if being transported by the covered person, or their employee.

Some examples of property not covered under Coverage F are as follows (not limited to): bees, fish, worms, show ponies, trees, plants, shrubs, fences, race horses, portable buildings, and more.

There are some specific items that Coverage G provides for at a specific listed limit of insurance. One is private power and light poles and another is new construction. Some examples of property not covered under coverage G are: water, pasture fences, foundations (below the ground), piers, docks, expense for excavation, filling, backfilling, land (inc. land that other farm structure is located), and more.

Why You Need Farm Insurance

Farm InsuranceSome farms are maintained by commercially owned growers, while others are run by individuals and families who are in the business of growing crops. Whether the crops in your fields are irrigated, such as corn and potatoes, or dry land like hay and wheat, you need proper crop insurance. While the risk protections and the coverage limits may be different from one farm to the next, every farmer will benefit from the right protection.

There are the basic types of coverage that every farmer will need, which includes home, farm buildings, shops, equipment, irrigation equipment and vehicles. However, there are also other important types of coverage that you may require for your specific type of farm, such as equipment breakdown, traveling machinery, pollution and chemical drifts.

Home or dwelling coverage will protect your home in the event of a major peril, such as lightning, hailstorm, fire or windstorms. In addition, it will also cover accidents, which includes vehicle damage to your home, as well as vandalism and theft. The personal belongings within your home will also be covered.

Farm liability insurance will protect you from the loss of your farm because of liability incidents. This includes bodily injury to someone that occurs on your property, as well as the medical expenses related to such an injury. You will also be provided with legal defense and claims payments for which you are determined to be legally responsible.

Agribusiness Insurance policies may be designed to also provide protection for your outbuildings, such as garages, sheds, barns and other structures that are used to store equipment and supplies. These structures are typically covered against the same perils as your farm house.

Your crops are a primary part of your business. In some cases, this is a farmer’s main revenue source. Crop Insurance will provide you with protection against major loss due to unavoidable weather damage, disease or natural disaster.
